USS Allen M. Sumner (Cdr. Norman John Sampson) arrives at Lingayen Gulf.
Later this day Allen M. Sumner is hit by a Japanese kamikaze aircraft in
position 16º40'N, 120º10'E. The plane hit near the after torpedo mount
killing 14 men and injuring 19. Despite the damage done Allen. M. Sumner
remained in action in the area until 14 January when she departed bound
for the United States west coast for repairs |
