13th November 1942 Sterett fired on a cruiser to starboard and,
in turn, took a terrific pounding from battleship Hiei on her port side
during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal .Several other actions until, while
on radar picket duty off Okinawa on 9 April, 1945 she was hit by a suicide
plane that left a large hole near the waterline forward on her starboard
