Crossing the Bar

An official RN Committal Ceremony, committing the cremated remains of former Serving Personnel (or their partners) to the sea, is provided at Crown expense from HM Dockyards in Portsmouth, Plymouth and Faslane by the Naval Chaplaincy Service.  HM Naval Base Portsmouth conducts the most regular committal ceremonies off Spithead, every Wednesday from 1:15-3:30pm (weather permitting).  HM Naval Base Devonport, provides a service one Tuesday a month in Plymouth Sound and HMNB Faslane provides them when required.  Costs for the casket and any transport/other expenses must be borne by the family.  For further details please contact your local RN Chaplain or the Committals Officer at:
